Another part of the Embroiderer’s Progress Quilt,: Block 52, the Long and Short Sampler. This was my stab (pun intended) at Mary Corbet’s excellent tutorial on long and short stitch shading.

This one looks strange in a couple of places: the top left corner has some suspicious buttonhole bordering, and the downward-pointing triangle in the bottom left corner is a little puffier than it ought to be. The reason for this is that I started the sampler on a very thin fabric, realized it was not feasible, and appliqued my progress to a heavier piece on which I completed the rest of the work.

This is also done all in DMC floss, with a stem stitch outline and a heather blossom in the center. Circa fall 2009.
